About

No Fun Records, a German vessel of sonic defiance, cut through the late 70s and early 80s with a series of releases that captured the raw nerve of the underground. Anchored in Hanover, the label was a brief but potent force, releasing exclusively on vinyl — a format whose tactile nature mirrored the sculptural soundscapes within. Der Moderne Mann's "Unmodern" from 1982 stands as a defining artifact, its minimalist contours and layered textures marking the label's zenith. Earlier, "Verstimmt (Live)" distilled the immediacy of live performance into grooves that vibrated with energy, a fractal representation of the scene's live ethos. The catalog, though compact, was rich in interdisciplinary collaboration. "Sex Sex Sex" by Hans-A-Plast in 1981 provocatively engaged with themes that were at once exploratory and transgressive, pushing societal norms in sonic form. Bärchen Und Die Milchbubis' "Dann Macht Es Bumm" and Phosphor's "Frisch Und Fruchtig" further expanded the label's reach within the German underground, each LP a sculptural object in its own right. No Fun Records was more than a label; it was a microcosm of the German experimental music scene, a network of artists whose work was both process-driven and aesthetically cohesive. Though its operation ceased in 1982, the imprint's influence lingers, a liminal footprint in the annals of experimental sound.
