German industrial noise project active 1979-1983, pioneering harsh experimental sounds in the European underground scene.
About
Hans-A-Plast was a German industrial and experimental noise project active during the late 1970s and early 1980s. Emerging from the post-punk and industrial underground scene, the project released four notable works between 1979 and 1983, establishing themselves as part of the broader European industrial movement that included acts exploring harsh electronics, tape manipulation, and confrontational sound design. Their self-titled debut album Hans-A-Plast (1979) introduced their abrasive aesthetic, followed by Sex Sex Sex (1981) and Ausradiert (1983), which further developed their experimental approach to noise and industrial composition. The project's output reflected the era's DIY ethos and underground aesthetic, characterized by primitive recording techniques and provocative sonic textures. Hans-A-Plast contributed to the development of the German industrial and noise underground, operating within the same creative sphere as other experimental acts of the period. A magazine or booklet titled Hans-A-Plast 2 Booklet suggests additional documentation of the project's work and philosophy. While remaining relatively obscure outside dedicated industrial and experimental circles, Hans-A-Plast represents an important documentation point in 1980s underground noise culture.
