In the liminal zones of the 1980s Canadian underground, Nettwerk Productions emerged as a crucible for industrial alchemy. Active from 1984 to 1988, the label's catalog resonated with the clang of machinery and the whisper of the avant-garde. Skinny Puppy's visceral soundscapes, like those in "Addiction" and "Chainsaw," sculpted the auditory experience of the era, their vinyl and cassette formats acting as both medium and message. The Tear Garden’s "Tired Eyes Slowly Burning" offered a hallucinatory counterpoint, a dreamscape woven with the threads of ambient and electronic. Nettwerk’s collaborative ethos found expression in projects like "Core - A Conspiracy International Project" by CTI (Chris and Cosey), where interdisciplinary sound met the sculptural space of the LP. With artists such as Severed Heads and Manufacture, releases like "Twenty Deadly Diseases" and "Terrorvision" mapped the fractal boundaries of sonic evolution. The label’s preference for vinyl and cassette formats, with 10 LPs and 5 cassettes in the archive, underscored a commitment to the tangible, the physicality of sound.
