About

In the shadows of Italian experimentalism, Misty Circles emerged as a purveyor of the liminal and the esoteric. Active from 1984 to 1998, the label's 18 releases etched a distinctive mark on the auditory landscape, with a fervent dedication to cassette culture. The raw, sculptural textures of tape were Misty Circles' primary medium, with four LPs punctuating the predominantly cassette-based catalog. Ain Soph, perhaps the most recurrent name in their catalog, embodied the label's ethos with releases like "Kshatriya" (1988) and "I" (1993), where the vinyl crackle met ritualistic soundscapes. Their collaboration with Sigillum S in 1998, pressed into vinyl, stands as a testament to the interdisciplinary dialogue fostered by the label. Meanwhile, Sigillum S's own "Klimax Axis" (1988) further cemented Misty Circles' role in the Italian underground. The roster was a constellation of exploratory voices, from the frenetic pulses of Spectra Electric's "Psycosistem" (1989) to the enigmatic whispers of Gerstein's "Phlegmaticus" (1987). Radical Change & Clau D.E.D.I. offered a fractal glimpse into their collaborative synergy with "Flower Power / Carillon" (1987), a sonic manifesto of radical expression. Misty Circles' releases, often limited and meticulously curated, encapsulated a process-driven engagement with sound. The label's resonance extended beyond its geographic confines, influencing a network of like-minded experimentalists. Its cessation in 1998 left a curated archive, a closed loop that continues to ripple through the layers of contemporary experimental music.
