About

In the hushed corridors of British neofolk, Sol Invictus emerged in 1987, a beacon of shadowed light forged by Tony Wakeford. From the ashes of previous endeavors, Wakeford conjured a sound both pastoral and martial, an invocation of England’s storied past. "Against The Modern World" marked their initial offering, a vinyl incantation released through L.A.Y.L.A.H. Antirecords, setting the stage for a succession of elemental releases. With a rotating cast of collaborators, Wakeford's vision wove through the landscape of haunting melodies and acoustic hymns, echoing the lamentations of a world on the precipice of change. The years 1987 to 1992 witnessed the crafting of six releases, each a ritual in its own right. From the shrouded depths of "The Killing Tide" on Tursa to the self-released live documentation of Frankfurt's ephemeral gathering, Sol Invictus etched their mark on the land. The collaboration with myriad musicians, such as Ian Read and David Mellor, enriched the tapestry, while Wakeford's constant presence ensured a continuity of purpose. Like ancient bards, Sol Invictus sang of histories and mysteries, their music a vessel for both reflection and prophecy. Though now silent, the echoes of their work linger, a testament to the power of sound as ritual.
