About

Schlafengarten didn’t last long, but they left a mark as deep as a trench. From 1984 to 1986, this U.S.-based act embraced power electronics with a visceral edge, delivering a blitz of harsh soundscapes across eight cassettes. Schlafengarten's work was a sonic assault — distorted vocals and saturated textures that left no room for comfort. Each release an experiment in minimalist composition and unrelenting noise. 1986's "Dance / Trance" on S.J. Organisation was a standout. A collision of minimalism and abrasive power electronics, it cut through the noise like a razor. The artist's alliance with labels like Sound of Pig Music and Cause and Effect only amplified their underground stature. Yet, self-released tapes like "same chair new house" and "Torgue" were where they truly bared their teeth, refusing any polish. Schlafengarten shared the scene with the likes of Surgical II LS and P16.D4, weaving through the same dense, hostile atmospheres. Their analog persistence and experimental layering are a testament to their raw, cathartic approach. Just 588 last.fm listeners, but those who know, know.
