About

Psyclones emerged onto the American industrial scene in 1980, a spectral duo casting dark soundscapes from lo-fi production and rhythmic experimentation. Brian Ladd and Julie Frith wove their austere tapestries from layered synthesizers, evoking a world both nocturnal and avant-garde. Their output, primarily on cassette, formed a skeletal network across niche labels such as Ladd Frith, Cause and Effect, and Sound of Pig Music. Releases like "We're Different Thinking People" (1985, Die Ind) and "Son Ov Cultleader" (1986, Sound of Pig Music) stand as monuments to their analog warmth and precise, cold elegance. "Acidhead" (1988, Ladd Frith) marked their final statement, a culmination of a decade-long exploration of industrial minimalism. This release, alongside earlier works like "Another Bridge" (1987, Wild Planet) and "Psyclones" (1985, Subterranean Records), showcased their evolution within a scene that favored the skeletal over the ornate. Sharing aesthetic affinities with artists such as Solanaceae Tau and DDAA, Psyclones carved their niche in the shadowy underbelly of the American experimental music landscape.
