About

OBUH Records carved a jagged path through Poland's underground between 1987 and 1997, a decade where the cassette was king and vinyl the rare jewel. Twenty-four releases, each a sculptural object in sound, span the liminal space between analog warmth and experimental chaos. With a roster that included the likes of Noise-Maker's Fifes, Ksiezyc, and Spear, OBUH embraced a fractal approach to genre, where darkness and abstraction met in a distinctly Polish context. Live (1997), a vinyl LP by Hybryds, stands as a testament to OBUH's rare foray into vinyl, juxtaposed against a cascade of tapes that defined the label's aesthetic. The cassette, a preferred medium, allowed releases such as More Experience's From Acid Dreams (1997) and Marchlevski's Parasitism (1997) to proliferate within the underground, their magnetic tape capturing the raw, process-driven energies of Poland's experimental scene. The Oma Thule Single editions by wumpscut: in 1995, pressed onto vinyl 7"s, echoed the label's interdisciplinary ethos, where each groove was a portal to the darker thematic elements that OBUH nurtured. Meanwhile, the haunting folk-inflected Now agata harz (1993) by Ksiezyc on vinyl 7" hinted at an ethereal undercurrent running through the label's offerings. OBUH's releases were not just music; they were sculptural sound artifacts, reflections of a scene driven by process and exploration, thriving in the liminality of post-communist Poland. The label's pursuit of the cassette format wasn't mere nostalgia; it was a deliberate choice, a nod to the immediacy and intimacy of the medium, providing a platform for voices that might otherwise have been lost in the analog abyss.
