Home Produkt
Home Produkt is an experimental music label from 1980s Liège, known for its lo-fi tape aesthetics and sculptural sound coherence.
About
Home Produkt emerges from the liminal zones of 1980s Liège, a cityscape transformed into sound through the lens of cassette culture. Operating between 1982 and 1986, this label embraced the exploratory nature of tape aesthetics with a catalog that defies easy categorization but resonates with a sculptural coherence. Their proclivity for lo-fi production and collage techniques is evident across their fifteen releases, predominantly tapes, with rare forays into vinyl and print. The clamor of the underground reverberates through Jean-Claude Charlier Et Son Orchestre's unofficial EP, "Deux Bonnes Raisons D'être Beau" (1986), a testament to the raw, unvarnished ethos of Home Produkt. Meanwhile, "Brabançonnes" (1986) stands as a notable compilation, a mosaic of soundscapes that capture the regional pulse with its unique tape aesthetics. Stefan Tischler & Tara Cross contributed to the label's sonic tapestry with their duplicated explorations in "Searchlight & Torch" (1984/1985), where field recordings and abstract textures merge. Home Produkt's format preference is clear — eleven cassettes out of fifteen releases — highlighting a deliberate focus on the tactile, intimate experience of magnetic tape. As the needle drops on "An Der Schönen Blauen Donau" (1986), the fractal echoes of experimental intent ripple, weaving the city's industrial hum into art. Though the label's life was brief, its interdisciplinary approach and regional influence echo in the annals of experimental sound.
