About

Corrosive Tapes emerged from the Belgian underground in 1986, a crucible of cassette-driven experimentation. For eight years, this label sculpted a liminal soundscape, where each release served as an interdisciplinary dialogue between artists and medium. The majority of its 35 releases were cassettes — 31, to be precise — with the remainder exploring other formats such as magazines and a solitary vinyl, "Experiences" (1994) by Cross-Modulator. Key to Corrosive's ethos was the collaborative spirit embedded in releases like the "Our Nebula Incured" series (1990), which became a touchstone for communal creativity, weaving various artists into a cohesive yet fractal narrative. S.Kwi featured prominently, with works like "Monolith (Crush Total!)" (1989) pushing the envelope of sonic architecture. Meanwhile, the rare vinyl outing added a sculptural dimension to the label’s repertoire, challenging the cassette-centric identity while maintaining the process-driven approach that defined its output. Operating at the intersection of format preference and release diversity, Corrosive Tapes didn't just participate in the Belgian experimental scene; it was a process-driven entity, reflecting the evolving landscape of sound and form. The label's closure in 1994 left a crystallized archive, a testament to the vibrancy and exploratory zeal of its time.
