About

Vienna's Amadeo label emerged in 1956, an amorphous entity in the evolving landscape of experimental sound. For three decades, it stood as a beacon for electroacoustic music, sculpting a space where tape manipulation and minimalist compositions thrived. A library of 11 LPs, each a fractal of sound, bridging the liminal spaces between the avant-garde and the conceptual. The Österreichische Musik Der Gegenwart series, an auditory triptych released in 1988, encapsulated thirty years of electroacoustic innovation, like a sonic museum on vinyl. Amadeo's roster was a constellation of interdisciplinary pioneers. Anestis Logothetis delivered with "Anastasis / Wellenformen / Styx" in 1985, a work that resonated with process-driven artistry. Josef Matthias Hauer's "Das Zwölftonspiel" (1982) and collaborations with Adelina and Gerhard Rühm, carved minimalism into the grooves of LPs. The label's dedication to vinyl, even as the world leaned digital, was an act of defiance, a testament to the tangibility of sound art. Klaus Kinski's voice, a sculptural force, animated the words of Villon and Rimbaud in 1971, while H. J. Hirsch and H.C. Artmann explored the poetic and the absurd, pressing the limits of sound's narrative capability. Amadeo's catalog is less a collection and more an archival journey through time, where each release is a node in the chronology of experimental music's evolution. The label's historical significance remains intact, a foundational pillar in the edifice of electroacoustic music.
