About

From the shadows of Zurich, Unknownmix emerged in 1983. Hans-Rudolf Lutz, Mani Neumeier, Knut Remond, Ernst Thoma, and Magda Vogel constructed soundscapes that were skeletal, tape-driven, and infused with spectral electro. The ensemble's output, a spectral collage of synth-driven soundscapes and live improvisation, found its home on both vinyl and cassette. "Mix 3" (1987, Recommended Records) and "Loops" (1985, Recommended Records) captured the analog warmth of their recordings. The DIY ethos pulsed through releases like "Unknownmix" (1983, self-released), where lo-fi production met precise manipulation. Their live performances, such as "Live Am Jazzfestival Willisau" (1985, Edition Unbeirrt), were exercises in nocturnal improvisation, a dance of skeletal rhythms and analog experimentation. Unknownmix remains a whisper in the ears of a select few, a spectral presence preserved in the grooves of their seven releases.
