Swans emerged from the New York City no wave scene with a sound as imposing as it was transformative. Founded by Michael Gira in 1981, the band's early output was relentless, a sonic maelstrom of industrial noise and post-punk aggression. The lineup morphed frequently, yet Gira's vision remained unwavering, driving the group through waves of sonic evolution. Albums like "Love Of Life" and "White Light From The Mouth Of Infinity" showcase a progression from sheer sonic brutality to more textured, dynamic soundscapes, always underpinned by dark thematic elements and avant-garde instrumentation. Swans' discography is vast, with 40 releases ranging from vinyl LPs to magazines and posters, weaving through various labels like Young God Records and Homestead Records. Their work includes collaborations with key figures like Jarboe, whose haunting vocals and keyboards became integral from 1986 onwards.
