Portion Control emerged from the shadows of South London in 1979, a mechanical force in the industrial landscape. Their sound, relentless and dark, is a testament to the modular chaos of synth-driven soundscapes and experimental vocals. Dean Piavani, Ian Sharp, and John Whybrew crafted a dystopian narrative through percussive rhythms and post-punk influences, releasing a plethora of tapes and vinyls across a network of labels like Illuminated Records and Dead Man's Curve. The early 1980s saw them sculpting a raw auditory experience, with releases such as "Simulate Sensual" (1984) and the self-released "Live Effenaar" (1984) tape, both embodying a DIY ethos that underscored their functional approach to music production. With "Purge" (1986), Portion Control solidified their position in the EBM scene, delivering a metronomic assault that resonated through the underground circuits. After a brief transformation into Solar Enemy, they re-emerged in 2002, continuing their sonic evolution. The "Progress Report 1980-1983" (2010) vinyl captures their early industrial experiments, reflecting a history of innovation and persistence. Similar to peers like Skinny Puppy and Front 242, Portion Control navigated the industrial currents with precision, leaving a significant mark on the genre.
