About
Nux Vomica erupted from Portland's crust punk underbelly in 2003, trafficking in aggressive soundscapes and politically charged diatribes. Their tenure, brief yet suffocating, concluded in 2017, leaving a trail of cassette releases under the flag of Auricular Records. Each tape, from "Spindal Alpha" to "Lines on the Island of Utopia," is a decayed artifact — raw, immediate, unapologetically confrontational. The sound is a corroded blend of relentless percussion, distorted vocals, and guitars that cut like rusted blades. An institutional hostility permeates their work, a fitting soundtrack to societal collapse. Echoes of Nux Vomica's sonic hostility can be traced in kindred spirits like Wake Up On Fire and Skarp. Their live performances were intense eruptions, primal expressions of discontent that left no room for compromise. Cassettes were their chosen medium, each release a terminal statement in physical form. Danny Costa's electric bass guitar anchored the chaos from 2008 until their dissolution, a constant amidst the decaying structure.
