About

Null is the solo project of Japanese noise and industrial artist Kazuyuki Kishino, active since the mid-1980s. Operating within the underground noise and experimental music scenes, Null creates heavily processed, abrasive soundscapes that draw from industrial and dark ambient aesthetics. The project emerged during Japan's vital noise music era, releasing material primarily through the Nux Organization label. Kishino's early output, including cassettes such as Hellzonic Bio-Metal and Maximum Lethal Dose (both 1986) and Sonic Erosion (1989), exemplifies the harsh, uncompromising approach characteristic of the Japanese noise underground. These works feature densely layered distortion, feedback, and abstract sonic textures that prioritize transgressive sound design over conventional musicality. While remaining relatively underground, Null contributed to the broader experimental and noise music landscape that gained international recognition throughout the 1980s and beyond. The project's output reflects the era's DIY ethos and tape-based production methods common to cassette-distributed noise music.
