About

Nihilist Spasm Band is a Canadian experimental and noise music collective that emerged from the London, Ontario underground music scene. Active primarily during the 1980s, the group is characterized by their abrasive, avant-garde approach to sound composition, blending elements of industrial noise, experimental music, and performance art. Their discography reflects a commitment to challenging conventional musical structures and aesthetics. Vol. 2 (1979) established their presence on the experimental music scene through the Music Gallery Editions label, a respected Canadian avant-garde imprint. The band continued their prolific output with cassette and vinyl releases throughout the 1980s, including 1984 on Chimik Communications and the provocatively titled ¬x~x=x on United Dairies, a British experimental label known for releasing uncompromising noise and industrial work. Their releases demonstrate an evolution within the underground experimental music community and contributed to the broader development of noise music and industrial sound art in North America during this era.
