About

Lightwave was an experimental electronic music project active during the 1980s and early 1990s, operating primarily through the independent Lightwave Productions label. The project's output reflects a minimalist approach to synthesizer-based composition, emphasizing modular synthesis and analog experimentation. Their early releases, including Instruments (1985) and Cités Analogues (1988), established a foundation in exploratory electronic sound design with emphasis on texture and tonal abstraction. By the early 1990s, Lightwave expanded their catalog through collaboration with the Auricle label, releasing Ici & Maintenant and Modular Experiment in 1990. These later works demonstrate an increasing sophistication in modular synthesis techniques and a deepening engagement with experimental electronic music aesthetics. Though operating in relative obscurity within underground electronic circles, Lightwave's consistent output on cassette media reflects the DIY ethos characteristic of the experimental and industrial underground scenes of their era.
