Kurzschluss
Early 1980s German noise and experimental project releasing raw industrial cassettes on underground labels.
About
Kurzschluss was a German experimental and noise music project active in the early 1980s, emerging from the underground cassette culture that defined the era's DIY industrial and noise scenes. Operating primarily through the independent labels Wahrnehmungen and Tödliches Schweigen, the project released three cassettes between 1981 and 1982: the self-titled Kurzschluss, Todeskommando im Hexenkessel, and Phutteko TeSaksaa. These releases exemplified the raw, uncompromising aesthetic of early 1980s German noise and experimental music, characterized by harsh electronics, distorted textures, and industrial sound design. The project's output reflected the broader European underground movement that rejected commercial polish in favor of sonic experimentation and provocative presentation. Though remaining relatively obscure, Kurzschluss contributed to the foundational cassette tape network that sustained experimental and noise music communities in Germany during this formative period, helping establish the infrastructure for the country's influential industrial and power electronics scenes that would develop throughout the decade.
