The Music of Sound

About

Factor X never whispered. From the heart of the United Kingdom, they unleashed a storm of abrasive sound from 1966 to 1993. Fourteen releases, all on tape. Each one a manifesto of noise and distortion. Factor X didn't play by the rules. They broke them, rewrote them, and then shredded the new version. The cassettes, self-released or through labels like Anachronismus and Harsh Dept. Productions, were not just music. They were confrontations. In the sea of power electronics, Factor X stood defiant. Their album "Directions" hit the scene in '92 and '93, proving that their assault didn't lose an ounce of its edge with age. "034 (Factor X 1989)" and "026 (Factor X 1986)" were more than just numbers — they were a series of visceral soundscapes that left no room for compromise. The harsh soundscapes, distorted vocals, and relentless tape manipulation became their signature. Each release was a challenge, a dare to the listener to endure and emerge transformed. Factor X was not for the faint-hearted. They shared common ground with the likes of Smell & Quim and Bourbonese Qualk, yet maintained a fierce independence that set them apart. Their collaborations with Schimpfluch and Inner Psyche Productions showcased a commitment to the underground, a refusal to soften the blow for mainstream appeal. This was industrial noise in its rawest form — unyielding, hostile, and cathartic.
