About

Disism, an enigmatic duo from the United States, carved a niche in the experimental soundscape from 1987 to 1993. Comprised of Charles Rice Goff III and Killr Mark Kaswan, their work unfolds in harsh, abstract compositions, where tape manipulation and dissonant textures coalesce into a sculptural dance of noise. The cassette, their chosen canvas, served as both medium and message, housing auditory explorations that defy conventional music-making. Their catalog, released under Clockwork Tapes, Sound of Pig Music, and Taped Rugs Productions, is a collection of auditory curiosities. Each offering a new perspective on the interplay between sound and silence. "Caliginous California" (1993), their final known release, echoes with found sound elements that redefine the very essence of listening. Earlier works, such as "Prenatal" and "Startled By White Bread" (both 1989), challenge auditory expectations with their fractured logic and relentless pursuit of the liminal. In collaboration with DD Downer on "4/18/87," Disism expanded their interdisciplinary reach, weaving their sonic fabric with external threads. Their sonic kinship with artists like Masonna & Schimpfluch-Gruppe and Swimming Behaviour Of The Human Infant situates them within a fractal landscape of exploratory noise.
