From the rugged landscapes of Wales, Datblygu materialized in 1982 with a spectral presence. David R. Edwards and Patricia Morgan channeled the raw, unrefined energies of a nascent Welsh rock movement into cassette tapes. Their work, distributed by Ankst and Casetiau Neon, embodies a DIY ethos — minimal synth filtered through the lens of Welsh experimentalism. Tracks like "Caneuon Serch I Bobl Serchog" (1984) and "Libertino" (1993) weave minimalist arrangements and new wave influences, a skeletal soundscape of analog warmth and nocturnal undertones. Each release on tape, a testament to the era's format preference, with titles such as "Fi Du" (1984) and "Trosglwyddo’r Gwirionedd" (1983) reinforcing their foundational role in the scene.
