About
Catdog, an enigmatic project from the early '80s, sculpts breakcore into a zany, interdisciplinary form. Amidst the swirling chaos of cassettes like "Rust And Mud" (1985) and "Blood Gigi" (1984), one discovers traces of an aesthetic rooted in animated humor and nostalgic sampling. Operating from the liminal space between experimental sound collage and animated sitcoms, Catdog's audio experiments parallel the whimsical worlds of "Futurama" and "Hey Arnold". Each tape loops and fractures, creating fractal rhythms that echo the surreal concept of conjoined feline-canine brothers. Released through DD. Records, the soundscapes of Catdog are sculptural, with tapes such as "Craft Workshop" (1983) and "Drip Drop" (1983) presenting a kaleidoscope of chaotic rhythms and nostalgic fragments. The project’s process-driven ethos is evident in the sonic evolution found across their ten releases. Although obscure, Catdog’s ephemeral presence from 1982 to 1985 leaves a lasting imprint on the listeners, capturing the essence of animated humor through a sonic lens, and inviting those who dare to explore its auditory labyrinth.
