About
Biota is an experimental music project that emerged from the underground industrial and noise music scenes in the early 1980s. The project is characterized by its exploratory approach to sound design, blending elements of industrial music, noise, and avant-garde composition. Their self-titled debut album in 1982 on the DYS label established the project's commitment to unconventional sonic territories. Throughout the 1980s, Biota released a series of increasingly experimental works including Rackabones (1985), Bellowing Room (1987), and awry (1988) on Bad Alchemy, each demonstrating an evolving approach to texture and composition. The project's later work, including the 1995 cassette Object Holder Selections on the experimental label ReR Megacorp, reflects the group's continued engagement with alternative distribution methods and the underground music community. Biota's work exemplifies the broader experimental and industrial music movements of their era, contributing to the development of noise and dark ambient aesthetics in underground music circles.
