Aconite was an experimental music project active in the early 1980s, primarily operating within underground cassette culture and the emerging industrial/noise music scenes. The project released material through independent and self-released channels, including work on Dicrotous Tapes and Monkshood Productions, labels associated with the DIY cassette underground of that era. Their output, characterized by experimental and noise-oriented approaches, included releases such as "Working in the Heart of the Beast" (1982) and "same (this is convenient - to me as soon as possible)" (1983), alongside a magazine publication titled "Gillham - some thoughts." Aconite exemplified the lo-fi aesthetic and self-determined ethos characteristic of early 1980s industrial and experimental music communities, where artists operated outside mainstream distribution networks. The project's prolific cassette releases and self-released work contributed to the broader underground music landscape of the period, influencing contemporary noise and experimental practitioners through direct-to-audience distribution methods that predated digital platforms.
